New Recycling Separation Laws
Did you know that as of 31st March 2025, there are new rules for waste separation?
‘Simpler Recycling’ is a new set of government guidelines which requires most firms to separate their waste and recycling
The guidance requires firms to separate their waste into the following categories before it is collected:
- Dry recycling (plastic, metal, glass, paper, card)
- Food waste
- Non-recyclable waste or ‘general’ waste
You can provide separate bins for each type of waste, or you can separate it before collection
You may have a waste collector that does this for you – check any specific requirements with them
Who needs to comply?
All businesses, charities and public sector organisations with 10 or more full time employees
Who is exempt?
Businesses with less than 10 full-time employees are currently exempt but will need to comply by March 2027
For more information, please refer to the government guidance below, or contact your commercial waste collector. Lewisham council also has information about this – see link below
